Tony Huggins was a long time resident of Barbican and a loyal supporter of the Residents Association and the Barbican Clubroom. He enjoyed many friends here and was a keen member of the Ward Club too. Anthony G L Huggins was at once a very sociable and friendly neighbour yet an intensely private man. He rarely talked about his time in the RAF but his friends always felt that he saw a great deal of action. He was a fighter pilot during the Battle of Britain and left the service with the rank of Squadron Leader...... Little more is known..... That was typical of Tony Huggins. He worked for many years with the Civil Aviation Authority and on retirement decided to remain living in Barbican. He had many interests of which photography was probably the most enduring. He died in 1989 following a hard time with lung cancer including several operations all of which were unsuccessful in arresting the disease. His cheerfulness and courage in the face of the inevitable will long be remembered by those of us fortunate to have been his friends. His sister survives him.... (SAC) |

The Club Records for the years prior to 1959 have
been lost. Most of the books vanished for ever during the War years. You
will notice there are huge gaps in the records. Although some
information has been gathered from the senior Club members and from the
descendants of former Masters it has proved impossible to be sure of all
who occupied the Chair in many of these earlier years. The official and
social activities of the Club during those years are also lost to us. |
