Arnold Lipman 1994

Arnold Lipman joined Cripplegate Ward Club in 1984 and was one of those who loved the functions until being forced to resign through ill health in 1987.

Arnold was a man of quiet dignity, courtesy being his watchword.  He made friends with ease and and those friends valued greatly the times they spent together.  He lived in Barbican for many years and was a loyal member of the Residents' Association. He supported the Clubroom several times a week not only as a customer but working as the "duty" barman too.  His cheerful smile and ready welcome for the new resident was one of his most endearing traits.

Arnold Lipman was a Londoner through and through.  His occupation was that of the General Manager of a dressmaking company in the East End and he delighted his friends with anecdotes from the busy world of the "rag-trade".

Arnold was a prominent Freemason and belonged to several lodges usually holding some important administrative office.  He was of Senior London Grand Rank.  His Masonry, like his life was based upon kindness and cheerfulness and an outstanding generosity of nature to all who came within his circle......  he is missed greatly for many attributes not the least of which is his friendship.........

He died in 1994 leaving a sister to whom he was devoted.

The Committee welcome the loan of items of historical interest such as photographs or  brochures.
All original documents will be returned to the owners.

The Club Records for the years prior to 1959 have been lost. Most of the books vanished for ever during the War years. You will notice there are huge gaps in the records. Although some information has been gathered from the senior Club members and from the descendants of former Masters it has proved impossible to be sure of all who occupied the Chair in many of these earlier years. The official and social activities of the Club during those years are also lost to us.

If anyone is able to offer any information, no matter how little, please contact us.
