Sir John Titman  KCVO  JP  DL

Sir John Titman, aged 76, passed away peacefully on Saturday 11 th January 2003 after a short illness.

Sir John had been a member of Cripplegate Ward Club since November 1995.  He was a Past Master of the Worshipful Company of Wax Chandlers and had led a most interesting life.  He served the Royal Family for 44 years in the Lord Chamberlain's office. His interests in his home community ranged from service as an independent local councillor to Epsom & Ewell Council for 7 years to being a founder member of the Epsom Protection Society. He was a Church Warden of his local church, St. Martin of Tours in Epsom, and also served as a Member of the Epsom Parochial Church Charities and was a member of the Committee of Management of the Epsom & Ewell Housing Association.

Sir John was a Patron of C.O.T.E. Christian Outreach Trust for Epsom.  He was Chairman of the C.O.T.E Coffee House Board, which is responsible for running the Dovecote Coffee House in South Street, Epsom. Sir John was very interested in C.O.T.E. and was a frequent visitor to the Coffee House, and was often found helping practically with the washing-up as the need demanded.

As well as being a local Magistrate Sir John served as Deputy Lieutenant of the County of Surrey.

Sir John's funeral service was held at St. Martins and was attended by hundreds of people expressing their respect and love for a highly respected member of the community.

He is survived by his widow Annabel, Lady Titman, two sons, and their families....

The Master and Committee of the Ward Club express sympathy on the loss of a respected Member

The Committee welcome the loan of items of historical interest such as photographs or  brochures.
All original documents will be returned to the owners.

The Club Records for the years prior to 1959 have been lost. Most of the books vanished for ever during the War years. You will notice there are huge gaps in the records. Although some information has been gathered from the senior Club members and from the descendants of former Masters it has proved impossible to be sure of all who occupied the Chair in many of these earlier years. The official and social activities of the Club during those years are also lost to us.

If anyone is able to offer any information, no matter how little, please contact us.
