Return to the Master Roll

Master 1965 - John W C Farley

Following a period as a Regular Officer in the Army, John Farley joined his father in the family textile business.  He has remained part of this company for all of his working life until five years ago (1998) when the business was sold.

He became a member of Cripplegate Ward Club in 1953 and progressed through all the usual offices finally being elected Master in 1965.

He has maintained an unbroken Ward Club membership to this day.

In recognition of his membership and service for over 50 years he was appointed an Honorary Member in May 2003

Mr Farley has kindly loaned us these photographs of the Annual Banquet of the year when he was Upper Warden and of that when he was Master.

The other main functions during his year of office were:

The AGM at which he was elected - Guildhall
The Annual Luncheon - Guildhall
A reception for Sir Winston Churchill at the Guildhall
at which an illuminated scroll was presented to Sir Winston on behalf of the Ward Club

Return to the Master Roll

The Committee welcome the loan of items of historical interest such as photographs or  brochures.
All original documents will be returned to the owners.

The Club Records for the years prior to 1959 have been lost. Most of the books vanished for ever during the War years. You will notice there are huge gaps in the records. Although some information has been gathered from the senior Club members and from the descendants of former Masters it has proved impossible to be sure of all who occupied the Chair in many of these earlier years. The official and social activities of the Club during those years are also lost to us.

If anyone is able to offer any information, no matter how little, please contact us.
