Charles Gamble Grant MA, a solicitor, served for many years as the Clerk to the Worshipful Company of Pewterers. The new hall was built in 1960 following the destruction of the City during the Second World War. Situated in Oat Lane it was now within the Ward of Cripplegate and has remained so until boundary changes in 2003 placed it in Bassishaw Ward. Mr Grant was instumental in nurturing the deep feelings of friendship between the Club and the Company. In this he followed the example of his father Arthur Stanley Grant of whom more can be read earlier in these pages. Mr Grant Senior was Clerk to the Pewterers' Company and was a Master of Cripplegate Ward Club during the 1940's. The goodwill that was so carefully fostered all those years ago, remains to this day. Our Ward Club recognised the valuable contribution over many years on the part of Mr Charles Grant by making him an Honorary Life Member in 1993. |

The Club Records for the years prior to 1959 have
been lost. Most of the books vanished for ever during the War years. You
will notice there are huge gaps in the records. Although some
information has been gathered from the senior Club members and from the
descendants of former Masters it has proved impossible to be sure of all
who occupied the Chair in many of these earlier years. The official and
social activities of the Club during those years are also lost to us. |
