Return to the Master Roll

The Centenary 1878 1978
Master - Wallis G G Hunt

Chief Commoner Wallis G G Hunt

Wallis Hunt was a most respected member of the City community and a valued member of our Ward Club.  He joined during the early 1960's and soon afterwards, in 1962 he became a member of the Court of Common Council as a member for Cripplegate Without and later as a Deputy in about 1974.  He remained a member of the Court and crowned his service by becoming the Chief Commoner in 1975.

Wallis had a successful career in the City, which, sadly, ended on a less than happy note when the stockbroking firm he was running was brought down, through no fault of his, by fraud. Typically, Wallis toughed it out and was instrumental in ensuring that all the creditors of the firm were paid in full.  Although he never complained, there is no question that this chapter of his life had a big impact on him and he did not work in the City again.

Within the Ward Club he progressed through the various offices until becoming Master in the Centenary year.  He remained a member and most loyal supporter of the Club even after leaving London and finally resigned due to ill health in 1999.

Wallis Hunt died in 2001 ....... his Obituary is elsewhere on this site: Click Here to View

Return to the Master Roll

The Committee welcome the loan of items of historical interest such as photographs or  brochures.
All original documents will be returned to the owners.

The Club Records for the years prior to 1959 have been lost. Most of the books vanished for ever during the War years. You will notice there are huge gaps in the records. Although some information has been gathered from the senior Club members and from the descendants of former Masters it has proved impossible to be sure of all who occupied the Chair in many of these earlier years. The official and social activities of the Club during those years are also lost to us.

If anyone is able to offer any information, no matter how little, please contact us.
