Return to the Master Roll

Mrs Sidney Elizabeth Armstrong Morton
Master 1998

BRIEF BIOGRAPHY

I was born in Westminster, and have a twin sister Frederica. My father, Frederick Armstrong Morton was an accountant and commercial artist and my mother Lilian Winifred Morton was a secretary and bookkeeper. I am divorced with no children.

At the age of four my family moved to the United States, where I attended Highland Park Lutheran School in Pasadena until aged thirteen. My secondary education was completed back in England at The Elms Acton, followed by Ealing College of Art.

I have worked as a self-employed, freelance accountant and bookkeeper specialising in solicitors' accounts for the last seventeen years. From 1979 until 1987 I ran a catering business in the City in addition to doing part-time accounts work. I was employed in the European Finance Division of Reuters for four years following my marriage in 1975. Prior to that I worked in the hotel and catering trade.

I have been a City resident since 1975, in the Ward of Cripplegate. I moved to Ben Jonson House in 1996 after 21 years living in Andrewes House. I have been involved in local activities for many years, am a former secretary of the Barbican Association and served for a number of years on the social committee. I have been a Freeman of the City of London since 1979 and a member of the Guild of Freemen since 1989. I am Past Master and Hon Treasurer of Cripplegate Ward Club, Hon Treasurer of City Heritage Society and a Liveryman of the Worshipful Company of Pewterers. I am also secretary of a small charity dedicated to the provision of medical and educational help to underdeveloped countries.

I still enjoy cooking and have retained an interest in wine. I have travelled widely and enjoy photography and drawing around the world. I like walking and keep-fit, reading, art and music.

Return to the Master Roll

The Committee welcome the loan of items of historical interest such as photographs or  brochures.
All original documents will be returned to the owners.

The Club Records for the years prior to 1959 have been lost. Most of the books vanished for ever during the War years. You will notice there are huge gaps in the records. Although some information has been gathered from the senior Club members and from the descendants of former Masters it has proved impossible to be sure of all who occupied the Chair in many of these earlier years. The official and social activities of the Club during those years are also lost to us.

If anyone is able to offer any information, no matter how little, please contact us.
