A Tour of The Supreme Court in Parliament Square with Lunch in Cellarium , near Westminster Abbey

Friday 20th January 2017

On a sunny but cold January morning, 55 members and guests collected at The Supreme Court -  an imposing building on the corner of Parliament Square, close to both Westminster & St. James's Park underground stations.  After a quick coffee we split into two groups and enjoyed engrossing and enlightening tours of the building. We were guided for over an hour each by very informative experts on the history and role of the Court in the UK justice system, the type of activities that take place on a daily basis and got to see Courts number 1, 2 and 3 and of course the Library.

During the morning there were a couple of opportunities to look around the interesting exhibition area containing many documents, photographs and other items relating to the Supreme Court including the Seal of Office presented to every Justice that takes Office at this Court (see picture below).

We then walked just across the road to a restaurant called Cellarium (part of the Dean's Yard undercroft, that was used by Monks from Westminster Abbey to store their food and wine). Here we enjoyed a well deserved wine reception followed by 3 course luncheon with further wines.
