The Government Art Collection

Wednesday 23rd November 2016

The Master welcomed as many members and guests as were allowed to this hidden gem just off Tottenham Court Road. A guided tour of well over an hour, gave everyone a good sense of what is involved in looking after this amazing collection of art.

Afterwards, we all crossed the road to the Radisson Hotel and their 'Steak & Lobster' restaurant for a well-earned supper and a few glasses of wine.

Here are a few pictures from the evening (sadly, no pictures were allowed in the Art Collection).

Gather at 5.50pm in Queen's Yard, off Tottenham Court Road (ten minutes walk from Warren Street, Goodge Street & Euston Square underground stations) for our exclusive tour commencing at 6pm.

Learn about the history and role of the Government Art Collection before seeing a selection of works owned by the organisation. A tour of the operational side follows which will include the workshop and racking area where works of art are prepared for re-selection by ministers of state and ambassadors.

This very popular tour, which is unfortunately not suitable for wheelchair users, will finish about 7.15pm when we will make our way to the 'Steak & Lobster' restaurant in Warren Street.

Bookings for this tour will be very limited - early application is recommended.

Here is a photo of the alleyway called Queen's Yard in between the two shops: 'Cards Galore' and Dreams Bed Specialist'.

The entrance to the GAC is down this alley about 25 yards on the right hand side, through two big black doors adjacent a blue wall-placque that says:

'Queen's Yard, 179A Tottenham Court Road /
Department for Culture, Media and Sport /
Government Art Collection'.
