A Visit to the City of London Police Headquarters

Wednesday 18th May 2016

Once again the event was completely full and two groups of 20 enjoyed the experience of a guided tour of the Police Station in Wood Street - the Headquarters of The City of London Police.

Following a quick introduction, the outside tour began with an overview of the Dog Team and their roles and training methods - we also met a couple of the dogs who were put through their paces. Then a presentation about handling anti-social behaviour, civil unrest and gaining access to property, this was followed by a look at the response vehicle sections and the cycle team. Back inside the Station, we heard all about Community Policing, anti-terrorism and the wider roles of Special Branch. It was indeed a most fascinating and informative visit.

Slightly later than planned, we all made our way over the road to the Pizza Express for a nice relaxed lunch and a few glasses of wine.

Supporting Information prior to the event

We will meet at 10am at the Wood Street Police Station in the heart of The City - the Headquarters of City of London Police and home to the Heavy Horses used  for many high profile events and Community Policing.

There will be a general introduction by the Senior Officer at the Station and then we begin our tour. We will have the opportunity to learn about Project Griffin (Counter Terrorism) and Policing & Community Work on the Barbican Estate.

Specialists will be on hand to explain & demonstrate their roles & responsibilities. We will meet Police dogs & their handlers, see motor cycles and the inside of a response van. Sadly, the State Opening of Parliament has now been set for this day and the horses have therefore been reassigned to be in Westminster.

After what is sure to be an interesting & busy morning, we will make our way to the nearby Pizza Express where we will have our own upstairs area for a welcome glass or two of wine & lunch. Unfortunately this venue will not be suitable for anyone unable to negotiate a fairly steep set of stairs.

Finish time probably about 2.30pm
