AGM and Civic Luncheon at Guildhall

 Friday 17th March 2017

Today was the day that I became Master of Cripplegate Ward Club although I had jumped three places and should have been Master in 2020. Better sooner than later. The AGM went without a hitch although our president went on holiday deputy John Barker kindly stood in for him.

Lunch followed beginning with a line up to meet our members and guests. As we took our places we were serenaded by my brother in law Alan on sax playing ‘When the Saints Go Marching In’ to celebrate St Patrick’s Day. Lunch by Cook & Butler, as always was most enjoyable. I then had an opportunity to present Sir John James Baddeley’s book ‘The Ward of Cripplegate’ to Barbara who has helped me so much.

We were honoured by the presence of the right worshipful Lord Mayor Locum Tenens Ian Luder, accompanied by Lin his wife. Ian made an interesting speech, followed by some amusing jokes. It was good to see so many guests including my son Max and daughter Lisa and Roger Pertwee the great nephew of Sir John James Baddeley. Also the master of my own livery company Tony Lofts joined by Anne, his wife. The lord mayor Alderman Andrew Parmley sent a gift of a set of Pewter coasters personalised with his crest. Alderman Ian Luder presented me with a beautiful Barometer which has pride of place in our Cripplegate Apartment. Pat and I would like to thank you for all your support and kind words.

Thank you

David Ayres
Master
