His Honour Judge Sir Gavyn Farr Ar thur KStJ GCFO (13th September 1951 - 16t h May 2016) Born in South Africa, Gavyn was educated at Harrow and at Christ Church College, Oxford. He was called to the Bar in 1971 and became a Recorder in 2001 and a Deputy High Court Judge in 2008. Having become a Freeman of the City of London in 1979 , he was elected a member of Common Council in 1988 f or the Ward of Farringdon Without and became Alderman for the Ward of Cr ipplegate in 1991 (replacing Alderman, Sir William Allan Davis). Gavyn hel d that position and indeed the post of President of the Cripplegate Ward Cl ub until 2008. During this period he was elected Aldermanic Sheriff in 1998 and then the 675th Lord Mayor from 2002 to 2003. In 2004 he was knighted for services to the City of London.
