Alderman, Sir William Allan Davis, GBE CA

PRESIDENT 1977 - 1991

   

 

Born 19 June 1921, educated at Cardinal Vaughan School, Kensington, married in 1944 with two sons and one daughter.

A member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland and of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales, an Associate of the Institute of Taxation, Senior Partner in the firm Armitage & Norton (London), Chartered Accountants, of 28 Southampton Buildings, Chancery Lane, WC2, Chairman of Internatio-Muller UK Ltd and UK Subsidiaries and a director of Dunkelman & Son Ltd, Fiat Auto (UK) Ltd and other companies.

Alderman for Cripplegate Ward 1976-1991, Sheriff of the City of London 1982-83 Lord Mayor of London 1985-86. Governor and Past Chairman of Cripplegate Foundation, Governor of Lady Eleanor Holles School, Cardinal Vaughan Memorial School and Bridewell Royal Hospital, member of the Court of City University, Trustee of Sir John Soane's Museum, also member of the Court of the Hon the Irish Society and the Court of Assistants of the Worshipful Company of Painter-Stainers and Hon Freeman of the Worshipful Company of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales.

Knight Commander of the Order of St Gregory the Great, Knight Commander of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem, Commander of the Order of Orange-Nassau and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts.

Sir Allan died peacefully in 1991 greatly mourned by his family and many friends.
