On Monday 17th October 2016 a Memorial Service for Sir Gavyn was conducted by The Reverend Dr Robin Griffith-Jones (Master of the Temple) and The Reverend Mark Hatcher (Reader of the Temple) at Temple Church, EC4.

The Service was attended by HRH Princess Michael of Kent, the Lord Mayor, the Sheriffs and many hundreds of friends, family, and colleagues, including many from the Cripplegate Ward Club. Tributes were given during the service by The Hon, Mr Justice Baker and Mr Alderman Nicholas Anstee. Other contributions were made by Miss Carole Blackshaw (Sir Gavyn's Lady Mayoress during 2002-2003), Mr Peter Tompkins (The Master Wax Chandler), Deputy Joyce Nash OBE and event organiser Mr Alexander Dixon.

Hungarian Ambassador Borbála Czakó has been granted the Freedom of the City of London, only the third Hungarian to be awarded this honour, the other two being revolutionary hero Louis Kossuth and Otto von Habsburg.

In a tradition dating back to 1237, the Ambassador took the oath in the Hall of the ancient Wax Chandlers Guild, after which she hosted a dinner at the Embassy, attended by George von Habsburg, President of the Hungarian Red Cross, and Sir Gavyn Arthur, former Lord Mayor of London
